New whale watching platform

Point Picquet, on the coast between Dunsborough and Eagle Bay, has a brand-new whale watching platform. This gives visitors an easily accessible location from which to take great photos and take in 180-degree views of the coastline as they scan the waters for migrating whales (common in the area from September to December), or other sea life all year around.

The waters immediately off Point Picquet are quite deep which is why whale researchers have used this location as a monitoring point for several decades. Whales, including humpbacks, blue whales and southern right whales, go past Point Picquet and around Cape Naturaliste before heading further south or on to Antarctica.
